Germany-based wind turbine manufacturing company, Nordex Group, has secured an order to supply and install 57 N163/5 X wind turbines from its Delta4000 series in the Eastern Cape.
The order encompasses a cluster of three wind farms, each with a capacity of 112,1 MW. The identity of the customer and the cluster remains confidential at their request.
The installation of the first turbine is scheduled for the second half of 2024, with energy delivery to the grid planned to commence in the second half of 2025, as stated by Nordex Group in a recent announcement.
Nordex Group will locally manufacture the concrete towers for the turbines, a move expected to generate around 300 jobs in the region.
Presently, Nordex Group operates over 1,1 GW of installed wind power capacity in South Africa, maintaining a 32% market share in the SA wind energy market.
