The City of Johannesburg has added more channels for residents to submit their own meter readings, allowing customers to become more proactive in the monthly billing of electricity and water.
The city said the initiative aimed to involve residents in the generation of their municipal bills and contribute towards achieving greater accuracy in billing, helping to resolve disputes.
Residents now have the option to submit a photograph of their meter readings via several channels, including the e-Joburg self-help website, walk-in customer service centres, the call centre and email to any of the regional contacts.
“The city wants residents to be part of the creation of their municipal bill,” says Kgamanyane Maphologela, Director of Customer Communications for the City’s Group Finance Department.
The city has provided contact information for each of the available channels on its website
