City Power has indefinitely suspended load-reduction measures, citing a decline in pressure on the electricity grid due to recent interventions – including the city’s intensified efforts to disconnect illegal connections and address meter tampering.

“We have witnessed a notable reduction in pressure on the electricity grid. Moreover, these actions have prompted many customers to approach us for legal reconnections, leading to more responsible use of electricity as they now pay for the services they consume,” said Isaac Mangena, City Power spokesperson.

City Power has also ramped up its energy efficiency and demand-side management initiatives, encouraging customers to adopt efficient electricity use. This has helped stabilise high and medium-voltage networks previously under severe stress.

“During the recent token identifier conversion from KRN1 to KRN2, we initiated a thorough normalisation process for our meters. This initiative has played a crucial role in stabilising electricity consumption and supply across the city, further reinforcing our ability to suspend load-reduction measures,” Mangena said.

While the suspension is indefinite, City Power warned that a surge in electricity consumption, illegal connections or meter tampering could necessitate the reintroduction of load reduction – potentially with little to no prior notice.
