The side events provide a conducive platform for open and honest discussions, with distinguished global speakers available to share their analyses and exchange views on vital energy issues.
The last day of the Africa Energy Indaba (AEI) is expected to be just as compelling as the preceding days with the Africa Gas Forum and IPP & PPA Conference side events featuring jam-packed agendas of the latest insights, trends, and developments in Africa's energy markets. Attendees can look forward to gaining valuable insights from energy experts on how to leverage these trends to achieve optimal results. The side events provide a conducive platform for open and honest discussions, with distinguished global speakers available to share their analyses and exchange views on vital energy issues.
The Africa Gas Forum
The 8th Africa Gas Forum will be aligned as an official side event of the annual Africa Energy Indaba. The event is set to bring together ministers, industry leaders and experts to strengthen international collaboration to optimise gas markets for energy security, shared prosperity, and climate action. The conference will focus on Africa's growing potential in the oil and gas industry, driven by factors such as population growth, urbanisation, and the emergence of a wealthier middle class. The forum aims to strike a balance between country-specific opportunities and common issues affecting the region, including exploration, licensing, development plans, new tax regimes, regional infrastructure projects, pipelines, LNG terminals, security, local content initiatives, investment requirements, and upcoming projects. Attendees will gain valuable insights into the gas industry and the latest trends and developments in the region.
IPP & PPA Conference
The second side event that will be held in conjunction with the Gas forum is the IPP & PPA Conference. With African regions facing power shortages, load shedding, and a growing demand for energy, there is a significant international investor focus on African energy projects and the role of Independent Power Producers (IPPs). This event offers an opportunity to discuss the future of the decentralised/corporate IPP/PPA sector, overcome challenges presented by wheeling, address bankability issues, and explore the role of hybrid power facilities and thermal technologies in the IPP/PPA sector. There are immense opportunities for renewable, mini-grid, and storage technologies, and the IPP development boom launched by South Africa's Department of Energy's Renewable Energy Power Producer's Procurement Programme (REIPPPP) has spurred investment in various technologies and project development opportunities across the continent.
The second day of AEI was a huge success, with particular emphasis on the outstanding Catalyst event organised by Global Alliance Africa and Innovate UK KTN. Attendees received comprehensive information about the Energy Catalyst Round 10 funding call opportunities, including eligibility criteria, application procedures, and ample opportunities were provided for networking and Q&As.
