Eskom generation executive Rhulani Mathebula says that fraud, corruption, funding constraints, poor planning, and shoddy work is crushing the power utility.

Speaking on Newzroom Afrika recently, Rhulani Mathebula explained his reasons for leaving Eskom after 19 years. Mathebula had taken over from Phillip Dukashe, who had held the position for only one year, in May this year. Since 90% of South Africa's electricity is generated by Eskom, his sudden departure raises serious questions regarding the future of Eskom and the availability of reliable and affordable electricity in the country.
