Time is running out for property owners of occupancy classes to obtain and prominently display an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) or risk a fine of up to R5 million, up to five years imprisonment, or both, says Frikkie Malan, Chief Commercial Officer of RMS (Remote Metering Solutions).
Property owners have two critical deadlines to meet, one of which is only a few months away. Before August 3, accounting officers and building owners must register the occupancy class and size of all their buildings on the National Building Energy Performance Register (NBEPR). The South African National Energy Development Institute (SANEDI) is the custodian of the NBEPR.
