Green Solar Academy Windhoek has launched a new training facility in Windhoek, which was previously located in Otjiwarongo.
The facility recently hosted its first training course – the SAPVIA-endorsed photovoltaic (PV) Green Card training, ‘Super Solar School’ – which is a five-day course covering the design, installation, maintenance, and financing of solar technology.
“Many of those who registered for the training are members of the Renewable Energy Industry Association of Namibia (REIAoN) looking to formalise their craft and eliminate guesswork in sizing and components. They also want to join GREENetwork, Africa’s largest network of solar installers,” said Green Solar Academy.
60% of Namibia’s power is imported from South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. “Thanks to the Modified Single Buyer (MSB) model, through which Namibia’s electricity sector is facilitating market deregulation, more IPPs are being allowed to contribute to energy production and export surplus energy to the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP). The vision is that around 30% of what an IPP produces will be absorbed by the national power utility, with 70% being exported to the SAPP,” said Green Solar Academy.
Green Solar Academy has formed partnerships with Iseli-energy and REIAoN to establish a solar industry community in Namibia.
