Liberty and Pareto, owners of Sandton City, have announced their interest in procuring renewable energy though the Independent Energy Pool (IEP) to develop and deploy wheeled renewable energy solutions for the mall. The IEP is a business-to-business platform allowing electricity consumers, generators and traders to buy and sell electricity.
This initiative marks a significant step forward in Sandton City’s commitment to sustainable electricity procurement. A target has been set to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030 (Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions), says Malose Kekana, Group CEO at Pareto. “We would like to invite interested generators and electricity traders to register, without cost, on the IEP platform and attend generator information sharing sessions prior to the release of the request for proposal documentation to the market.”
José Snyders, Chief Commercial Officer at Liberty Two Degrees, says: “As managers of Sandton City, we are purposeful in our endeavours to manage and diminish its carbon footprint. We aim to achieve energy efficiencies and other opportunities through further initiatives, which include wheeling. We will persist in ensuring the mall continues to operate responsibly, considering the environment and the needs of all our stakeholders.”
The IEP’s information-sharing session for generators and electricity traders, introducing them to its procurement processes, is available at www.independentenergypool.com.
Sandton City has installed a 1 MW solar photovoltaic roof structure and a smart-metering systems for insights on its energy consumption patterns.
