General information regarding Revive Electrical Transformers’ cast resin transformers (CRTs)
Distribution CRTs (100 kVA to 5 MVA, up to 33 kV) consist of the same basic parts as an oil-filled transformer. CRTs have a magnetic core, LV winding and MV winding (Figure 1). The only difference is that resin and air are used as the main insulation material instead of oil. Without oil, the transformer is cooled by air. This is good news, because, since there is no oil in the transformer, there can be no oil leaks. No leaks mean no bunt wall and other health, safety and environmental (SHE) requirements, saving significant installation costs on a new project.
Furthermore, the fact that there is no oil in the transformer means that regular maintenance that oil-filled transformers require is not needed. It also means that there is no need for oil to be transported to site, and no on-site oil filling is needed. This in turn ensures compliance with clients’ safety and environmental regulatory requirements.
