Globeleq, an African-focused independent power producer, has appointed Marlise Schmidt as General Counsel replacing Stephen Ramsay who will be retiring at the end of the year. Schmidt, currently the transactions director for Globeleq South Africa, will also join Globeleq’s Executive Committee from 1 January 2024.
Schmidt joined Globeleq in 2016 and has been instrumental in a number of key power projects within the firm’s portfolio. She has more than 15 years of relevant experience in the African energy sector and has worked on projects in Mozambique, South Africa, Zambia, Namibia, Eswatini, Uganda, and Botswana.
Prior to joining Globeleq, she was a director and co-founder at Infrastream, an advisory firm for the energy sector. She also worked as in-house counsel at SolaireDirect South Africa (now Engie) and spent her early career in large corporate law firms in South Africa.
