Kinetiko Energy has secured funding to commence a gas flow testing programme on five wells in Mpumalanga.
The Australian gas exploration company plans to start operations by the third quarter of 2024 and aims to identify high-flow gas zones in the region. The company has secured US$2,2 million (R39 million) to fund the project.
If the wells prove to be productive, it will confirm the viability of the gas discovery, setting the stage for future development in region, says Adam Sierakowski, Executive Chairperson of Kinetiko. “Successful results from these wells are expected to significantly mitigate the technical risk associated with the unique geology of the company’s world-class on-shore gas discovery, paving the way for a promising future.”
In September last year, the company announced that its initial exploratory work in the most northerly tenement of Mpumalanga province showed “excellent results” with potential for commercial advantages. “The sediments are literally laden with gas in reservoir formations, displaying superior porosity and permeability,” Nick de Blocq, CEO of Kinetiko, said at the time of the initial exploration.
