Street lighting represents an estimated 20-30% of total municipal electricity consumption in South Africa. Retrofitting light-emitting diode (LED) lighting systems affords a significant reduction in this electricity consumption. In addition, LEDs offer a wide range of lighting controls, which can further reduce electricity consumption and improve street lighting system performance.
