Infra Impact Investment Managers (Infra Impact) has announced that it has on behalf of certain of its clients, acquired a significant minority interest in Rhino Energy Holdings (Rhino Energy) a vertically integrated commercial and industrial solar PV EPC & PPA company in Southern Africa, as part of its commitment to promoting clean energy and mitigating the impact of load shedding on businesses across the country.
Founded in 2007, Rhino Energy is considered a leader and pioneer within the South African commercial and industrial energy sector with a focus on competitive clean energy solutions, including solar and hybrid solar systems. The company develops, constructs, operates, maintains, and owns solar plants for its clients. It has completed in excess of 100 projects across South Africa, accounting for over 40 MW of solar hybrid energy. The company also owns a portfolio of solar energy plants that provide electricity to off-takers through power purchase agreements. Through its subsidiary HyperionRE, the company has an extensive pipeline and ambitious targets to build a 100 MW Solar energy portfolio over the next few years.
The investment will help to boost Rhino Energy’s presence in the fast-growing global market, bringing the benefits of cost-effective clean energy to hundreds of businesses, reducing the devastating impacts of load shedding, and supporting South Africa’s transition to a lower-carbon economy.
Load shedding has been a recurring challenge for South Africa in recent years due to the country's reliance on fossil fuel-based power generation. This has had a significant impact on businesses and the economy as a whole, with many companies experiencing disruptions to their operations and a loss of productivity.
With this investment, Infra Impact is taking a proactive approach to address the challenges posed by load shedding and promoting sustainable infrastructure in South Africa. By investing in Rhino Energy, the fund is supporting the growth of a leading player in the commercial and industrial solar PV market and helping to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy solutions across South Africa.
