Eskom has signed a memorandum of cooperation with Golden Arrow Bus Services to develop electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure in the South African market, including charging stations.
Golden Arrow plans to introduce 120 electric buses with a view to converting 10% of its fleet to EVs by the end of 2025.
The success of the project will require numerous partnerships across the value chain, said Golden Arrow CEO Francois Meyer. “Introducing electric buses at scale requires partnerships between large electricity generators, distributors and users. This memorandum of cooperation will enable us to work together to provide a public bus service that is safe, reliable and cost-effective.”
The memorandum of cooperation establishes a productive partnership to enhance the South African EV market, supporting informed investment decisions in local EV manufacturing and charging infrastructure development and identifying strategic collaboration areas in EV initiatives for mutual benefit, an Eskom spokesperson told Energize. “Eskom and Golden Arrow will collaborate in a comprehensive EV initiative designed to transform the public transport landscape, focusing on several key areas including the development of EV infrastructure, integration of renewable energy sources and implementation of innovative technologies to enhance the efficiency and reliability of electric public transportation.”
