Eskom launched its Young Professionals Development Programme on February 22, a traineeship for young graduates to learn from the power utility and promote innovation in the organisation and energy sector at large.
The graduates, the majority of whom studied engineering, were selected following a recruitment process. They will join Eskom for a 12 to 36 month traineeship.
Eskom is hopeful the programme will lead to a flow of innovation into the organisation. “We are trying to fill the organisation from the bottom up with qualified workers,” says Agnes Mlambo, Central East General Manager.
On a broader scale, the programme aims to increase the number of qualified workers in the South African energy sector. “We are doing this for the greater good, not just for Eskom,” says Mlambo.
