Circular Energy, a producer responsibility organisation, has partnered with PV Cycle, a European organisation, to promote recycling of solar photovoltaic (PV) panels in South Africa and establish industry benchmarks for managing the end-of-life phase.
The collaboration will include a series of specific initiatives, such as workshops, webinars and information campaigns, designed to involve manufacturers, importers, installers, policymakers and consumers of PV panels and energy storage systems in South Africa. This will be done within the framework of the 2020 extended producer responsibility regulations to promote widespread adoption.
“We aim to drive the PV industry in South Africa to comply with existing producer responsibility legislation and to offer cost-efficient recycling. By synergising our capabilities and resources, we are strategically positioned to guide the South African PV market towards a more circular economy,” says Jan Clyncke, Managing Director of PV Cycle.
