City Power launched a solar geyser installation programme in Alexandra this week. The initiative is part of the utility’s broader effort to reduce household electricity consumption and alleviate pressure on the grid.
The project will be rolled out in coming weeks, prioritising indigent households.
In addition to managing electricity consumption, the solar geysers are expected to reduce peak demand, especially in high-density areas where load reduction has become necessary.
According to the utility, the initiative is in line with City Power’s commitment to promote renewable energy solutions aiming to diversify power sources, reduce dependence on single energy supply and prevent overloading of the system.
To qualify for the solar geyser installation, beneficiaries must have smart meters installed in their homes.
