Mining power systems are transitioning away from fossil fuels as their primary energy source towards hybrid power systems that include renewables. However, the final hurdle in achieving an “all-electric mine” is its reliance on fossil fuels for vehicle propulsion. While surface mines have long used electric vehicles, underground operations and remote sites still depend on internal combustion engines.
