The Africa Energy Indaba (AEI), to be hosted at the CTICC in Cape Town, South Africa on March 5 to March 7, 2024, will provide a crucial platform for investigating energy-conscious solutions to the challenging environment of rising electricity costs in South Africa.

The Minister of Public Enterprises, Pravin Gordhan, recently approved a further 10% increase in electricity prices for 2024, leading to an increase of around 18% from the 2023-2024 fiscal year and a 31% increase in electricity prices for consumers in only two years. In response to this latest development and the greater trend of electricity rate increases, the AEI will focus on the issues of energy affordability and sustainability.

The event will feature dialogues by leading figures in the energy sector, who will unpack alternative energy solutions to minimise the consequences of energy price hikes and reveal the future of the energy landscape in Africa.

The event invites all stakeholders, including government officials, corporate leaders, entrepreneurs, and the general public, to engage in and contribute to the conversation on Africa’s energy future. The goal of the dialogue is to form collaborations between stakeholders and present perspectives and insights that can overcome the problems caused by escalating electricity costs.
